This is a great video about shelter evaluations made by professionals who actually have their heads on straight. If anyone can find the full webinar please let me know, I’m dying to see it.
Please Enable Flash to Join the Cybersecurity Webinar
I signed up for what I thought looked like a quite interesting Webinar covering Veeam, Lifecycle Management, etc... However the seminar website requires Flash to view the event. I feel like this is some kind of tactic, where anyone who joins must not actually know much and can be sold anything. I know that it's still "supported" through the end of the year but, wow. https://imgur.com/a/53JXeAU
Had the "privilege" of sitting in on an investment property owner's webinar this evening....
Held by a prominent RE Agency and they did a good job of it. Their job is to tell owners what the market is like and how to maximise profits. No problems. The Good (from a tenants POV) - There is already a glut of properties on the rental market (we know this already). - Apparently many landlords are holding their properties off the market until restrictions let inspections start up again and the agents were saying this will lead to a massive glut and quite a firm downward pressure on rentals. Good news for us. - Same with property sales, massive glut expected but at the moment apparently 6% higher than last year still. Assume this is because properties aren't going to auction etc. so the data isn't quite up to date. THE BAD - Most tenants will know this but so many landlords are just fucking leeches. Some are great but so many are leeches. - There was a Q&A section to be held at the end of the presentation, several attendees interrupted the presenter within minutes asking when they could increase rents, followed closely by when could they start evicting people. I get that their investment is having tough times but the face that people could vote on questions to be answered first and those questions were 1 & 2 respectively when could they raise rents and when could they start evicting tenants? Fuck those guys. We are in the middle of a pandemic. People are out of work. People are more uncertain now than they've ever been and all they can think of in how much they can increase the rent by (during a glut in the market) and how soon they can move people on. Sometimes my days bring me renewed faith in humanity. Sometimes I despair. The biggest takeaway I got was this: If you are a tenant, the second agents are allowed to bring people through your property "by private appointment" (according to the roadmap) prepare for thosse "private appointments" to be a queue of people waiting out the front waiting to be shown through one by one. Be firm, you have to allow people through obviously but you don't have to acquiese to every demand. Make sure they are by individual private appontment. Give them times that works for you and if they are going to do the queueing up thing, limit the amount of consecutive "appointments" to five or something. Ugh. What garbage people some of those landlords are.
For those that missed the joint Physician for Patient Protection and American Medical Association joint webinar tonight on midlevel scope creep and expansion of NP practice I tried to jot down some highlights. I haven't been an AMA member since med school (dat free First Aid) but will be rejoining after tonight's conference.
PPP and AMA have partnered to fight NP/PA/Podiatry/Psychology/Pharmacist scope creep throughout the country
AMA is reaching out to ACGME/LCME to inquire about medical students/residents being supervised in ANY capacity by a midlevel provider. Please report these occurrences so that they can get an idea of how prevalent this problem is. You may do so anonymously ([email protected])
AMA has successfully fought 70+ scope creep bills this year alone. Often multiple bills are being considered per session in state legislatures. They are fighting back in conjunction with state medical boards.
While they recognize AB890 was a huge loss, they are not giving up the fight in California. They are also turning their attention to other states such as Texas.
Talk of a national "truth in advertising" campaign. This may feature NP's who are now medical students, residents, or attendings.
Several "behind the scenes" campaigns on social media
AMA has dedicated lawyers fighting these issues. Several members brought up partnering with medical malpractice lawyers to hold NPs responsible and place them under a medicine scope of practice. This would allow MDs to testify as expert witnesses in their medical malpractice cases. The legal efforts are ongoing but a lot of ideas were discussed.
We have been losing this fight steadily for the last decade, no doubt. However, it was refreshing to see PPP/AMA come together tonight with great discussion from med studs, residents, and attendings on the chatroom. Physicians everywhere ARE starting to see this as a big issue, and the national lobbying bodies are taking note as well. I do not speak in any official capacity for PPP or AMA, thoughts and views above are my own alone. I have been a member of PPP since early in its inception and will be rejoining AMA after learning of their advocacy efforts. Again, not here to shill for either of them. I'm just a regular resident physician that's tired of all this nonsense as much as everyone else here. These groups have the power to actually enact change at the local, state, and federal level. AMA members can also apparently put forth proposals for the AMA to take up. I hope some of you will consider joining this fight. This is, in my opinion, the biggest threat to physicians practice in the United States perhaps ever (no Donald Trump hyperbole). https://www.physiciansforpatientprotection.org/why-join/join-now/ https://www.ama-assn.org/amaone/membership
Webinar on transitioning from a PhD in physics, chem, etc. to data science -- Oct 13
EDIT: if you are moving from academia with any sort of PhD, Master's etc., then you're welcome to come. As someone who hires a lot of data scientists, I know how difficult a transition from academia could be and this is what we'll be discussing. Hi there -- I'm organizing a webinar with a friend of mine (for our career accelerator that you might have heard about) where we're interviewing people who have moved into data science roles from non-traditional backgrounds. On Tuesday Oct 13 at 2pm ET (New York time), we're interviewing the VP of Engineering and formerly head of AI/ML at Drop (a fintech co.) on how he moved from a PhD in physics into these roles. If anyone is here is transitioning in such a way, let me know if you'd like to attend. We're trying to help as many people as possible. DM me or send me a message and I'll provide the info.
I recently participated in a webinar on progressive taxation. Unknown to me, Allah had his own ideas on taxation 1400 years ago. Islam never disappoints.
Vendors, please put self-promoting posts or webinar information in this thread. Threads that are posted elsewhere will be removed. It's fine to post if you did last week - if the group doesn't want to see it again, your comment will just get downvoted :)
asking stupid questions on webinars does not get you any brownie points with the AOs
i think I saw someone rant about this w Rice and tbh I thought they were overreacting. i was wrong y'all need to take a step back and THINK before you ask if _____ is going test optional because #1, if you really were interested in the school, you would already have known the policy literally by searching it up and #2, three people already asked that since the beginning of the webinar don't ask the school questions that my un-techsavvy self found the answers to by searching it up on this thing called google and stop asking about things thEY ALREADY COVERED IN THE WEBINAR. I'm astounded by the amount of questions that came in asking about stuff they already covered in the beginning im serious. if you don't have a good question, don't ask one. I highly doubt the AOs enjoy answering the same questions that can be easily searched up multiple times during a webinar smh for people applying to these top schools, y'all can really be a few brain cells short (im not excluded; i'm probably a subpar applicant compared to the rest of the people, but at least i have the sense to find things on my own before wasting everyone's time)
Don't be afraid to take that next step and join an organization, sign up for a webinar, or start volunteering. ADHD can make us feel like there's no way to fit our passions into our lives, but developing your interests is just as important as cleaning your house or running errands
My cycle had always been:
See something interesting, become fascinated and super curious
realize that it needs time/effort/equipment to learn, and I won't be able to master it with a few hours on Wikipedia
Think that my life is too chaotic and I don't have time to get everything done as is, so I can't possibly add in one more thing
Drop it, but keep it in the back of your mind as something to come back to "when you get you're life together"
Repeat infinitely
My counselor pointed out that these activities and interests are what gives meaning and happiness to life, and she suggested that I sign up for some things and try out my hobbies. Here's what I did:
I went on facebook events and looked for online events that seemed interesting. I found a ton of stuff from local organizations and colleges, the webinars are all free and on zoom!
I've always been fascinated by beekeeping, so I googled "cityname beekeeping". I found a ton of clubs and organizations and joined them all, and registered for a few online talks from people in the community.
I've always loved animals, so I looked up a local wildlife rehabilitation center and called them to ask if I could volunteer. Next Sunday I'm going in for my first full day of training!
I always wanted to be artistic, so I bought a set of watercolors and I've been enjoying just experimenting with them, even though I'm bad
It's been a huge mental shift, I'm so much happier and I love that I'm finally nurturing my interests and hobbies. All of this stuff is cheap or free, most can be from your house, and the payoff is huge!
YouTube ad I got this morning. It’s another scam webinar of someone explaining his back story for 30min before selling you a “full proof” method to “win” any girl you want.
Deciding between Webinar Platforms - BigMarkter, Zoom Webinar, GoToWebinar
Our small manufacturing operation is trying to decide between a few different webinar platforms. We've narrowed the list to;
BigMarker - Has nice UI/UX and registration pages.
GoToWebinar (GTW) - UI kinda feels dated but it does just work from what I've read.
Zoom Webinar - Seems basic and people know how to use it. We don't like ZW won't let you remove "Zoom" branding no matter the price tier.
We right now are leaning toward GTW and ZW since they integrate with our CRM via Zapier. We really like BigMarker but feel like it will get annoying exporting data to CSV and importing to our CRM. Does anyone have experiences between these webinar platforms they want to share? What do you think we should go with?
